We’re supporting mothers on their journey to motherhood.
For over 26 years, Step By Step has helped thousands of families in our community, giving babies a healthy start and moms the skills they need to thrive.
As a Washington State First Steps provider, we offer both Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management, using a holistic approach that includes home visits from registered nurses, licensed counselors, and registered dietitians.
We recognize that to build strong families, moms need to have their needs met–physically, mentally, and socially. We’re proud to offer mental health support groups, crisis and homelessness prevention services, job training, educational scholarships, and peer mentorship, while also fulfilling tangible needs such as car seats, strollers, and food.
In addition to funding from government organizations, grants, and generous community members, Step By Step is supported by our own social enterprises, Farm 12 and Fika. Based in Puyallup, our restaurant, event space, and coffee shop are vibrant community gathering places where we come together to support Step By Step financially and through our Dreams Work job training program.
Making an impact, step by step.
OUR MISSION
Equipping pregnant women, mothers and families to positively impact generations.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where every woman embarking on the journey to parenthood has the support and resources she needs to build a healthy, thriving family. Building on her strengths and seeing hope for her future, she can give back to her family and her community.
Founded by a mother, for mothers.
Krista Linden
CEO and FOUNDER
During a student teaching experience, back when I was in college, I met a little girl named Leanne who had fetal alcohol syndrome. She was completely void of life. When I finally met her mother, I understood why. Years later, when I held my first baby in my arms, I pictured her in the arms of Leanne’s mother. I knew, in that moment, that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping mothers be the best they could be, so that every baby could have a healthy start in life and be given their best chance. And, I knew that our families and our communities would be stronger, if I could do it.
I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight. But, I believed that it was possible to not just offer another hand out, but a transformational hand up – one mother, one baby, one healthy step at a time.
In 1997, I found a registered nurse, a licensed counselor, a dietitian, and some community members who would be on my board, and I founded Step By Step.
Step By Step has grown to serve over 1,200 women each year. We have helped thousands of women transform their lives and the lives of their families for the better.
